PACSL was formed in 1998 by a group of individuals who had been playing adult recreational soccer in Palo Alto, CA for many years, and felt there was a need for a well-organized summer adult coed league that focused on the recreational aspects of the game, over competitiveness. There is deliberately no ‘A’ division in PACSL. It was also the intent that the league be completely not-for-profit – fees charged cover direct expenses of the league i.e. referees, field rental and maintenance, game equipment, insurance, etc.--not board salaries/ stipends, the latest office equipment or expense accounts, such as was happening in other leagues. All board members are volunteers.
In addition to playing Sundays from approximately mid-June until Labor Day, PACSL launched a trial weeknight league in Fall, 2009. This has proven very successful, and currently we are limited by local evening field availability. As our ability to gain access to fields ‘under the lights’ increases we hope to be able to offer this venue to more teams.
